Ten year ago, Global Nomads Group (GNG) sent a team into Iraq twice to enable a real-time dialogue to occur between teens in Connecticut and Iraq. Against all odds and under Saddam Hussien’s leadership, GNG received special permission to make this historical cross-cultural connection — two weeks later their two countries would be at war. The second visit occurred just weeks after the Bush administration declared an end to major combat in Iraq. The teens on the Iraqi side could now speak more freely about their lives and experiences during the war and the Americans were able to share their perspectives and gain insight into this world event from their peers’ perspective. Ten years later, the two groups will meet again, this time mostly in person, in New York City. Now academics, doctors, teachers, parents and more, we will commemorate this monumental event and discuss and explore the changes that have occurred in their lives, in Iraq, the US as well as the world.
